Later
a sappling of the sacred Bo tree was brought here and planted in
Anuradhapura. This can be still seen flourishing today. Sri Lanka
is the centre of Theravada Buddhism and from here it spread to
other Buddhist countries. South Indian invasions brought Hinduism.
Now around 70% are Buddhists, 15% Hindus, 7.5% Muslims and a
similar number of Christians. |
