Ancient Cities -

Anuradhapura -

Anybody wants to see old ruins, there are enough here from the 3rd cen. B. C. Anuradhapura was the centre of Sinhala Kingdoms for well over a thousand years. Civilization and Religion started from here and spread to the other parts later on. One can go on exploring Anuradhapura for days.

Mihintale -
Known as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, is just 15kms away from Anuradhapura, situated on a hill with magnificent views and surrounded by ruins and lakes.

Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya -

The Medieval Kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka from about the 10th cen. A. D. till 12th cen. A. D. more ruins are found here with the magnificent statues of Buddha in Galvihare. The ancient city is surrounded by the Parakrama Samudraya and lush green paddy fields. Polonnaruwa is a "must see" place for anybody.

The Rock Fortress of the 5th cen. A. D. and the 8th wonder of the world. One cannot miss this spectacular Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, which rises 200 meters above the ground level. The 1500 years old frescoes - "sigiriya damsels", water gardens and the fountain gardens will never fade away from anyone's memory.

Dambulla Cave Temple
The Cave's history goes back to 1st cen. B. C. in all five caves there are about 150 Buddha images and some Hindu God images. The entire ceiling is covered with ancient paintings.
